9 month checkup

Aren't these the cutest boys ever?  Okay so maybe I'm a bit biased =)  Today was our 9 month check-up.  No vaccinations (although a small poke for a hemoglobin check) and a good review by the doctor, so it was a win-win appointment.
Logan weighed in at 18lbs 4oz.  (a 1lb 3oz gain in 3 months) and measured 27.75in long (1.75in longer).  His measurements keep him just above the 25%-ile in all measurements.

Ellis weighed in at 18lb 4oz too! (gaining 2lb. 12oz in 3 months) and is 28in long (an increase of 2.25in). He is also just above the 25%-ile in all measurements.  He has been a bottomless pit lately and eating EVERYTHING in site, so his larger increase doesn't surprise me!

The only "concern" is that since both boys have colds right now, they also both have fluid in their ears.  Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it and just hope their cold clears up soon so the fluid leaves their ears.  Also we are keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn't progress into an ear infection!  The doctor also mentioned continuing our adventure in finger foods and foods that aren't pureed smoothly - increase the "chunk" so to speak.  The only issue with some of the things we've introduced is that it is either too small or too slippery for them to pick up themselves.  Peaches - too slippery, Peas - too small, banana - too squishy, etc.  They eat them when we feed it to them on a spoon, but it doesn't help the "finger food" part of it.  She also confirmed that it wouldn't hurt to give them a snack before bed, besides their bottle.  Our boys are growing well, so keep the food coming!

Aside from that, all is good here.  It's my last few days off before returning to work Monday.  I'm glad I have all of my to-do's done so I can focus on relaxing and doing fun things the next few days!

what does 25 percentile mean?

Yeah boys! That's a lot of growth in 3 months. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, in this case, Logan and Ellis are the same height and weight or smaller as 25% of the baby boys in the US who are also 9 months old. So, 75% of 9 month old boys are larger than them.

I think the most important part of the measurement is tracking their growth overall during their first 2 years of life. If that percentile drastically changes - higher or lower - than the dr may be concerned. My 2 cents. :)

Right Nicole. They are bigger than 25% of other babies their age Basically their stats are tracked on a growth curve and each appointment their stats are graphed on this chart. They have pretty much been between 25-50% the whole time and the consistency is a good thing. Don't want them to be too far off their own curve after the first few months I guess...just growing steadily for their original size. It would be surprising if they were 75% or higher just because their size when born was lower due to there being two of them, so being at the 25%-lie means that 75% of babies are bigger than them, which seems about right for their birth size too.
